Footnote: Unraveling the WoY-R Through Tarot.

For the first devlog of the new year, let's start with some really trivial details.

About Beginning Four Elves and the Four Treasures of the Elves.

Important items that appear in the WoY series are the Four Treasures (or Chalice Sacred Treasures): the Holy Grail, which creates new life; the Holy Paten, which grants eternal life; the Holy Sword, which brings great power; and the Holy Lance, which pierces the path to truth.

The Four Treasures are said to have once been possessed by the dragon-formed goddess Chalice, the earth goddess of Yelekedis, but were abandoned by her. For unknown reasons, the Treasures were placed in the depths of Geltagrand Cave.

The Four Treasures are linked to the four elements of fire, water, wind, and earth. The element diagram is as follows:

This diagram was inspired by Tarot, Irish or Celtic legends, Arthurian legends and myths from around the world. By the way, if to replace the diagram above with Tarot cards, it would look something like this:

These Four Treasures are possessed and hidden by four elves commonly known as the Beginning Four Elves.

Gathelzence has the Holy Lance, Laduiagoth has the Holy Grail, Iguelizand has the Holy Sword, and Yemuriscend has the Holy Paten.

The elements of the treasures they possess also symbolise their respective character traits.

  • Gathelzence, the owner of the Holy Lance (Fire), is energetic and bold, with a personality that is typical of a world ruler. He also has a tendency to rush ahead without thinking too deeply.
  • Laduiagoth, the owner of the Holy Grail (Water), has very variable emotions. Ze used to be calm and gentle, but now... ze's emotionally unstable because of too many things that have happened.
  • Iguelizand, the owner of the Holy Sword (Wind), may seem fragile, but she is surprisingly clever. She has the composure to assess a situation critically, and the ability to see what is best.
  • Yemuriscend, the owner of the Holy Paten (earth), is composed and does not get upset over trivial matters. No one is better at protecting their bases and lives than her.

However, even though the Beginning Four Elves possess the Four Treasures, they do not manage them directly. The three, excluding Gathelzence, have made pacts with high-ranking beings known as the Dependent of Chalice: Camilla, the dragon of Twilight; Lilfu, the dragon of Dawn; Bhemwd, the dragon of Dusk; and Sparna, the giant red-winged bird, and have asked them to protect or seal the Four Treasures.

  • Laduiagoth has asked [Camilla, the dragon of Twilight] to watch over the Holy Grail.
  • Iguelizand has entrusted the management of the Holy Sword to [Sparna, the giant red-winged bird].
  • Yemuriscend offers [Lilfu, the dragon of Dawn] a safe place to sleep, in exchange for hiding the Holy Paten under his large body.

Bhemwd, the dragon of Dusk, one of the Dependent of Chalice, is not interested in the elves and other new lifeforms, and never appears before them. Therefore, Gathelzence, who has not made a pact with the Dependent of Chalice, protects the Holy Lance with his own hands.

The Holy Lance was placed defenceless in a room in the white castle towering over the sunny city of Ritafilz. This holy spear would lead to the great incident known as the Fall of Ritafilz...

The personality flaws in Beginning Four Elves.

The outward personalities of the Beginning Four Elves are symbolised by the treasures they each possess. Their hidden personalities, or in other words, their personality flaws, are linked to their nicknames.

Gathelzence, King of the Applause:

Applause is enthusiasm, and enthusiasm is heat, so his element is fire. Moreover, his fire is a fire that consumes everything. Gathelzence often prioritises face and popularity, which means he is short-sighted. Because of this, he has left many big blunders and disasters in the world. He is also good at shifting the blame, which means spreading the fire.

Laduiagoth, King of the Golden Bough:

In English, Laduiagoth's nickname was translated as [Golden Bough] to enhance zir mystique, but in the original Japanese, it is simply [黄金: gold, golden-]. Derived from the mineral gold, Laduiagoth's element is earth. It's a very heavy lump. Laduiagoth is lazy, thinks too much and doesn't take action, and doesn't go out at all. Also, dazzling gold brings trouble in many ways...

Iguelizand, Queen of the Evening Calm:

The Evening Calm is the sea, which means her element is water. And it's completely still water. Iguelizand's mental landscape is mostly completely calm. The only time the water ripples are when she's being pushed around by her storm-like daughter, Shilegizand.

Yemuriscend, Queen of the Blizzard:

The howling blizzard is wind. Her element is icy wind. A wind so cold that it can take your life. Yemuriscend is the most decisive member of the Beginning Four Elves, and is cold-hearted enough to abandon or execute her comrades if the situation requires. In the previous game, she was said to have 'beheaded her insane husband to ensure the safety of her beloved daughter'.

Diagram of the Major Arcana redefined in WoY-R

In the previous game, Wanderer of Yelekedis, each character was assigned a Major Arcana of the Tarot, and the story was built around that. (I believe that the Tarot is the best way to create characters and stories that have a wide range of personalities and a balanced mix of personalities.)

In this game, the assignment has been redefined. It is now as follows:

Ranjarma is set at the Fool, the beginning of the Major Arcana. As the story progresses, which card will she move to from here? That depends on the player's choices. If things go as planned, she'll probably end up at Magician, but there's a chance she could fall to an unexpected place... or maybe not.

In the Magician section is Silgizand, the eastern elven princess. By the way, in the WoY interpretation, this place is called Wanderer.

Ⅱ~Ⅴ... there's nothing to say about. Incidentally, The Hierophant is called 'Great Merchant' in WoY.

And the one in the Lovers section is Zizval. As I noted in the image, this place is called 'the Twins' in WoY. In the previous game, twin mages Racyl and Melyl, disciples of Ranjarma, were assigned here.

What is it about Zizval that makes him 'Twins'? Well, for that matter — wait for the release!

Chariot is Deelan (she charges like a boar and can't turn well), Strength is Mesakyne (Mesakyne is a beast herself, and is also the rationality that controls the beasts).

...There is nothing particularly deep to say about this either.

Hermit is Geltdalath (he got tired of being active and retired). However, in the previous game, Laduiagoth was in this place. In the previous game, Laduiagoth was a calm hermit, while in this game, Laduiagoth is depicted as a nervous time before ze settled down, so ze is excluded from this place. I've assigned Geltdalath here because it fits better here based on what he said.

Wheel of Fortune is assigned to Pahnuy

Why?
......(⊙ˍ⊙)meow

Skipping over ⅩⅠ~ⅩⅣ, move on to the ⅩⅤ~ⅩⅨ series. The Goddess of the Hadd Clan is assigned here. The true identity of the goddess will depend on the player's interpretation.

And in WoY, the Judgment refers to the judgment given to the ancients. It's not about resurrection in the kingdom of the gods or eternal life, but the exact opposite. It's not a trumpet of blessing that roars, but roars of rage and thunder.

Finally, Laduiagoth is assigned to the World. Just like in the previous game, Laduiagoth is here. In the previous game, Laduiagoth was in two places, here and in the Hermit, but this time ze's only here.

I'd like to talk more about the tarot in detail after the game is completed and officially released.

...But when will the official release be?
